3 questions: jakob, bob dobbs, thanx dub
Question: whats up gman. i finally figured out how to ask you some questions. on your website there wasn't a link to post any. i'm a huge sublime fan and have some questions to ask about them. my first one is: i recently saw sublime day on youtube. it was these kids at brads grave on may 25. his son jakob was in the video all grown up. do you know if he's fallowing in his dads footsteps at all? second question: sublime shouts out bob dobbs and has his face on the 40 oz cd... did brad or sublime really practice the Church of the SubGenius religion? 3rd question: i know miguel was the one who actually said the thanx dub track but who wrote it? if you could answer these itd be much appreciated. thanks for spreadin the knowledge
Answer: No worries at all.
OK,
well, the video that you saw was at Brad's gravestone. By the way, that
is his "memorial" not his grave site because he was cremated. Troy and
Jacob drove up from San Diego that day. Jake, at the time, I believe was
15 or 16. The only thing that Jake is doing (at this point) to follow
in his Father's footsteps is that he plays guitar. To my knowledge, he
has not started a band yet nor is he in a band. From what I hear from
Troy, he is concentrating on his schooling.
Next, Brad and Bob
Dobbs. Brad was interested in most everything. Life interested him but
more importantly, "extreme" life. People who were either nuts (crazy) or
had unique takes on life and/or reality. He ALWAYS had a book in his
hands. No one in the band was "into" Bob Dobbs as a philosophy or a
lifestyle, etc. Brad just thought he was "out there" and interesting at
the same time. The EXACT reasoning behind Brad deciding to use his image
on the "40 oz. is a mystery because he was never asked the question
while he was alive. Other than him having an interest in most everything
and everyone who had alternative takes on life & living it;
including Bob Dobbs, the use of his image is not entirely known.
And
lastly, the "Thanx" on "40 oz." the writing credit is given to: Gaugh,
Floyd I (Iv) (Songwriter); Goodman, Marshall (Songwriter); Nowell, Brad
(Songwriter); Wilson, Eric (Songwriter) but for the most part it was
Miquel who compiled the list. Mikey was their manager and booked every
show, etc. & he was also (essentially) their babysitter. He kept
track of everything. Things like making sure that people were on the
mailing list (for goods & tour info... merchandise, etc.) and
keeping in touch with people who hooked them up in different towns,
contacts, etc. That's essentially what that list is: people who hooked
them up along the way, contacts, influences, and friends. Most of that
knowledge was Miguel because these are people that he would be (or was)
in contact with. So, realistically, MOST of the credit for that rant
goes to Miguel; however, everyone was credited as a songwriter because
everyone added their particular section to the list for Miguel to read.
Also, let's not forget that EVERYONE wanted to get PAID for that "song"
(that was not even really a song).... So, EVERYONE was credited on the
song,...... and everyone GOT PAID!!! ah hahahahahaha...... Totally
"sublime"
I hope this helps.
"All Sublime All The Time"
Peace,
GMan
