Alternate Takes in Austin Texas/Self-Titled Picture
Question: When Sublime was recording there 3rd album "Sublime", were there any songs that werent released like just them messing around in the studio or b-sides not on secondhand smoke or everything under the sun. And the picture off Brads back on the album, was that the picture they were orginally going to use even before they changed it from killin' it?
Answer:
Well, there weren't songs; per say, that were not released. Pretty much everything recorded for the album was released on it. But, there were "jams" and alternate takes. Most notably, the "Demos & Outakes" CD that has been circulating for a few years now. It has different takes of several of the songs from the "S/T" album, dub versions, different intros, etc.
Also, you can find some other songs from those sessions; like "Eireen" on the "Black" Albums 1 & 2. Songs that were around for years but not recorded or released... and/or jams that would have most likely developed into complete tracks had Brad not passed away.
There is a wealth of sublime stuff that is out there and will be coming down the pike for years to come... we all just have to be patient; as all the guys in sublime are strapped down by MCA and would be sued if they tried to release any personal stuff. I, myself, would love to come out with some stuff but I have been warned not to do so numerous times by MCA; even though the guys in sublime are all for it.
Again, we all just have to be patient until MCA is out of the picture.
And, as far as the "S/T" album being changed from "Killin' It", there is a lot of things that went down.. (the "Killin' It" album was going to be a double album and also have a "live" set on it.) but, for the artwork/picture: The picture that was going to be used; and this is not "fact" per say because things could have changed,(just like sublime; mostly Brad, always like to do...) but, the photo by John Dunne was to be used. The one with sublime in "gangster" clothes with guns and shit. There is actually a poster of that picture that says "sublime" on top, and "Killin' It" on the bottom. Some say that this was promotion for the upcoming album,... some say it was coincidence.
The picture can also be found on the cover of the bootleg release, "bumS lie" by sublime..
In any case, the word on the street is that this picture by John Dunne was to be used for the cover.
I hope this helps.
"All Sublime All The Time"

GMan
