Prophet (demo)
Question: Ok, GMAN so you might not know this answer and their may be no answer to this but in the end of the song Prophet (Everything Under the Sun Disc 2), Brad says "That was so Sick!, dude this song needs to be re-fuckin' thought out." Was this song ever "re-fuckin' thought out" or did it just stay as a Demo? Personally this is one of my favorites, it just seems like it could have gone far. I know Slightly covered it but can you give me any more info?? BTW....Reppin' Sublime in Lincoln, NE all day.
Answer:
The song "Prophet" is based around a Bob Marley idea & it was a Slightly Stoopid song. Bradley covered it and started playing it when he would go down to San Diego & hang with those guys back in 1995-1996. There are some infamous acoustic songs that were done down there in Kyle's living room; "Prophet" being one of them.
Then, Brad started playing it with Sublime and the version that you hear on "ETUTS" was done at the same time as the only 4 songs that were done before they went to Texas to do the "S/T". Just playing different stuff & jamming during those recording sessions, they came out of there with; not only "Ain't No Prophet", but also:
1.)Miami
2.)What I Got
3.)Doing Time
4.)Caress Me Down
The cassette from these sessions can be seen here...
By the way, you can also find the song, "Ain't No Prophet" on the infamous & awesome bootleg release, "bumS lie". It's also a different take(different version)than you hear on "ETUTS"
I hope this helps.
"All Sublime All The Time"
Peace,
GMan
