Ron Jeremy Produced Sublime Video's?
Question: I read that Ron Jeremy produced the videos for "Date Rape" and "What i Got," but can't find any confirmation on this. Can you set me straight?
Answer:
As far as Ron Jeremy "producing" sublime's videos, there is a grain of truth to that. Sublime loved Ron Jeremy; just like most everybody that is into porn. Seeing as they "idolized" him in a way, they sought him out to appear in their "Date Rape" video.
When they met, they hit it off... hanging out, etc. Although the extent of Ron hanging out with the guys is not widely known or publicized, it is known that they had a mutual admiration for one another.
Now, when you say "producing" it usually comes down to money or running the show. The main man who makes it happen. Or just(sometimes) negotiated "screen time"(credit). In the case of Ron Jeremy, it was more about money & recognition... self promotion... ego boost.
For instance, an "Executive Producer" is usually someone who is an Executive at the company but did NOTHING is terms of actually producing the project. He or she is just someone that the people doing the project give props to as a cardinal rule. Like, without YOU this would have never happened.... Props, essentially.
Ron Jeremy is a notorious ego maniac and he saw his relationship with sublime not only as hanging out with a bunch of cool guys, but as a business opportunity.
Sublime, of course, was more than happy to oblige.
Essentially, Brad would do whatever for Ron because he admired him, but also because Ron had given them money to help them and their career prosper. For both, it was "You've helped me, I'll help you" because they both liked what each other did as a career.
The "producer" listed on "Date Rape" is Volney Howard & this is most likely the "guy who made everything happen". Ron was the other side of the "producing" coin... The money (or funding source) and the recognition side. To bring the "Date Rape" video up a notch when it hit MTV due to Ron's involvement in the business (and sublime's lack thereof.) Cross promotion & marketing.... genius.
The same is true for "What I Got". However, since Brad had passed away,... it was done more from a "out of respect" standpoint that time around.
They scratched each others backs; which is a common practice in the Hollywood/Entertainment industry.
As we can see, it worked out perfectly for both parties.
I hope this helps.
