Sublime singing in Spanish???........
Question: Hi GMan I have this huge question that is bugging me and I can't find an answer, my question is why does Sublime sing in Spanish? Is it that a group member is part Latin, do they love the Spanish language or did they have major influence from friends/culture since they are from California and there is a major Latin community or what is the reason behind singing some of there songs in Spanish? I must say lead vocalist, Bradley, sings very well in spanish and even knows the idioms from Mexican Spanish.
Answer:
Hey Tye! Viva Mexico!!!
Sorry for the slight delay but I am in Hawaii on Vacation and I haven't been on my computer that much as you can imagine. ;-)
OK, Sublime doesn't sing in Spanish,.... Bradley did. haha Brad grew up in Long Beach and in L.B. there is a HUGE cultural mix of people. There are whites, blacks, Mexicans, gangsters, artists, drug dealers, parents, children, etc.
So, being right near Los Angeles; where there is a huge Mexican population,.... Long Beach also has a big Mexican population. Brad was open to anything and everything & he had friends from all walks of life. Some of his friends were Mexican & Brad felt that it was "rude" to talk to them in English when that was not THEIR language & Brad was a total sponge so he would pick up stuff like nobody else. He also read and read and read books... book after book... in Spanish!!!
Long story short, he taught himself Spanish; just like he taught himself to play the guitar. He learned from his friends at an early age & just spoke Spanish to them (everyday) and English to his American or Caucasian friends; and that's why he's so good at it. Because, he didn't just "speak" Spanish,... he was FLUENT in it.
Brad was amazing,... a Genius,..... on many different levels. His ability to pick up & retain the Spanish language was just ONE of the MANY talents that he had.
Keep listening to sublime,.... you'll see exactly what I mean.
